WAYNE, NJ (March 15, 2010) – JVC Professional Products, division of JVC U.S.A., today announced that D’Ambra Technologies, a medical technology research firm based in Portland, Maine, is using the JVC GD-463D10U 46-inch 3D LCD HD monitor as part of a system that allows observers to watch surgical procedures in real-time 3D at Massachusetts General Hospital (Mass General) in Boston.

Established in 2004, D’Ambra Technologies develops imaging systems that bring the benefits of 3D technologies to the medical community. The company combines software and optical engineering with existing medical hardware to improve imaging for a variety of medical procedures.

“What we do better than anyone else is acquire, record, and display realistic medical 3D content independent of the source,” explained David Kaplan, M.D. at D’Ambra Technologies. “We are working to build a system which can model a real surgical field in real time 3D – and then allow virtual surgery to be performed on that virtual surgical field. Surgeons will be able perform a ‘practice operation’ before they cut anything on a patient.”

ProjectorReviews.com recently posted an in-depth review of the JVC DLA-RS35 (also available as the DLA-HD990) home theater projector. The reviewer praises the projector’s “superb, and unmatched, black level performance”, its color reproduction and sharp image, among other attributes. The reviewer was so impressed, that the projector was given a Hot Product Award and named Best In Class.

AV enthusiast publication Sound & Vision has posted a front projector comparison review from its February/March issue to its website. The test includes the JVC DLA-HD550. Reviewer Brent Butterworth notes that the HD550’s “ability to reproduce deep black is in a whole other class than what I’ve seen from any other $5,000 projector.” He also says that the “DLA-HD550 delivers an extraordinarily dynamic, punchy picture. Contrast and detail are awesome, especially considering the projector’s price.”

Geek.com, home of all things geek, is evaluating the JVC Everio GZ-HM300 camcorder. Like all 2010 Everio camcorders, the GZ-HM300 offers time-lapse video. Geek.com contributor Sal Cangeloso is a fan of the time-lapse feature, and posted two time-lapse videos to the site.
