Interview With JVC Tech Expert About 2012 Projectors
While at CEDIA Expo last week — the trade show and convention for the custom installation industry — HomeTheaterForum.com stopped by the JVC exhibit and interviewed us about our new line of projectors, just announced at the show and slated to be available in November. Four of the new projectors feature JVC’s e-Shift Technology, which allows the projectors to display 2D HD content full 4K precision.
Home Theater Magazine Names Two JVC Projectors “Top Picks”

JVC DLA-X7
The latest JVC projector reviews come from Home Theater, which recently posted reviews of both the DLA-X3 and DLA-X7, and awarded both “Top Pick” status. The DLA-X7 earned a five-star rating — the highest possible — for “performance,” while the DLA-X3 was awarded 4.5 stars for “performance” and a five-star rating for “value”.
Here are some excerpts from the DLA-X3 review by Kris Deering:
- “To say I was impressed would be an understatement. JVC has done a phenomenal job in its implementation of 3D with this freshman effort.”
- “I can honestly say I’m more impressed with the DLA-X3’s 3D performance than any 3D I’ve ever seen at a commercial theater.”
- “With 2D playback, the DLA-X3 was one of the best projectors I’ve ever used. “
- “In the DLA-X3, it is truly amazing that JVC has been able to improve on their 2D performance and deliver exceptional 3D performance with their freshman effort, all at a price of $4,495.”
As for the DLA-X7, reviewer Shane Buettner had this to say:
- “…this projector’s 2D performance was subtly but noticeably improved in some important areas compared to my DLA-HD750.”
- “The DLA-X7 looked so sharp and detailed, and its 3D effects are so convincing, that it blows away what you’ll see from most commercial Digital Cinema 3D.”
- “I bought the DLA-X7 as my new reference projector. My money’s where my mouth is, and that, dear reader, is the highest recommendation I or anyone else can offer.”

2011 Projector Reviews Are Coming In…
The first few reviews of the new JVC Procision Series home theater projectors are out, and the consensus is that the 3D-capable 2011 models continue the series’ reputation for outstanding performance.
First up is a review of the DLA-X3 in The Perfect Vision, that notes, “JVC’s highly refined D-ILA imaging technology seems ideal for 3D, as this reasonably-priced entry level model delivers an enticing 3D image, along with excellent 2D high resolution imagery.” Regarding 3D performance, reviewer David Birch-Jones says, “The 3D image quality is comparable to that provided by the best 3D plasma HDTV flat panel sets out there (and better than what you’d experience in a commercial movie theater with typical passive polarized 3D glasses)…”
For a video review of the DLA-X3, check out the segment below on the internet TV tech show, Tekzilla. They were impressed with the projector’s image quality and ease of setup.
Meanwhile, Sound +Vision magazine has reviewed the DLA-X7. Reviewer Geoffrey Morrison concludes his review with these words: “The JVC DLA-X7 is a staggeringly good projector. Its black level is among the best regardless of technology, but most important, this black level is achieved while simultaneously giving off bright whites. The resulting contrast ratio is hopelessly habit-forming and puts nearly all other displays to shame.”

TH-BA1 Soundbar Reviewed
The website BigPictureBigSound recently posted a review of the JVC TH-BA1 soundbar home theater system. They found a lot to like, giving the system an overall rating of three stars out of a possible four.

TH-BA1 Soundbar
What did they like? Sound quality, simple to set up and use, the convenience of the wireless subwoofer, controls and the easy adjustment of the center channel volume level. They would have liked it even more if it offered an HDMI input and a more eye-catching design, and in their opinion the bass performance could be improved a bit, but the reviewer qualifies that comment by noting the system’s very reasonable price. Overall, they consider the TH-BA1 to be a real value. Read the complete review here.
