JVC Demonstrates Live Stream Camera At CES

LAS VEGAS, January 10, 2012 – JVC is exhibiting a working prototype of a new “Live Stream Camera” at this year’s International CES. The technical exhibit is a demonstration of a new camera that streams live video over the Internet, complete with pan/tilt and zoom operation controllable from a remote location.

This addresses one of the prominent trends in video — the growing need for more immediate image sharing. What began decades ago as tape dubbing evolved into burning DVDs to share footage, and more recently uploading to video sharing sites on the Internet. With each progression, the time from image acquisition to sharing has shrunk dramatically. And now as demand for the ultimate in immediacy, real-time sharing, gains momentum, JVC seeks to offer a superior solution for such users. Launch of the product is expected sometime this year.

JVC’s “Live Stream Camera” offers a number of advantages compared to other types of cameras already on the market. Its pan/tilter can be operated remotely from a PC or tablet, and is quiet compared to the noisy mechanisms used in security cameras. It provides high quality images and sound on a level that simply cannot be matched by USB cameras. It features an optical zoom for superior image quality, a feature that is not available with USB cameras and low-end security cams. And it records Full HD quality video onto an inserted memory card. All in all, it takes the quality offered by a full-fledged camcorder, combines it with the unmanned capabilities of a high-end security camera, and provides them all in a compact package with Wi-Fi wireless communication and versatile remote operation.

The 10 million estimated worldwide posters to USTREAM, YouTube Live, STICKAM and other live video sites will be natural candidates for using the JVC “Live Stream Camera”. To this core group of users, expectations are that many more groups will join the list of users, including vocational schools (for online lessons), entertainment distributors (for live event publicizing), musicians and artists (to address their fan base and promote new releases), night clubs (to attract patrons), academic institutions (for coverage of conferences, etc.), kindergartens, (so people can check on their children), enterprises (to stream press events and campaigns) and tourism organizations (to generate buzz for key destinations).
